KCCO - Keep Calm, Compute On! With several well-publicized security threats in the news recently, we've been urging clients to keep calm by having and sticking to a data security plan. By leveraging key technologies and applying updates in a managed fashion, preventative measures can mitigate many risks. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, after all!
In this month's newsletter, we share an article with my reactions to the Petya outbreak in late June. In addition, we discuss take-aways from our Office 365 event, provide an update on our upcoming move, are introduced to Proteus Fund, offer a save-the-date for an open house event, and we meet technical Swiss Army knife - Ben Scoble. Enjoy!
Dave DelVecchio, President
May brought news of WannaCry, and June brought us Petya. Both leveraged a Windows operating system vulnerability for which a patch for supported operating systems had been issued in March by Microsoft, and had been applied through Innovative's centralized patch management solution to our managed clients immediately thereafter.
Innovative is dedicated to protecting our client's data, and in a follow-up blog article
, I offer the three pillars of computer security, and remind all of the Cardinal Rule of safe computing - Don't execute email attachments from unknown sources!
O365 Event Take-aways
Our June 28th lunch and learn event was a sell out! Many thanks to all those who took time to join Innovative President Dave DelVecchio and special guest, Tim Rettig from Cincinnati's cloud experts IntrustIT, who shared ways organizations can get more out of their Microsoft Office 365 subscription by leveraging Office 365 services such as SharePoint, Teams, and more!
Following the event, I penned a blog article
which captured my reactions to the discussions of the day, including the analogy that committing to a cloud platform like Office 365 for key business communications is not unlike driving down the highway at 55MPH in a car that's still under construction. An Office 365 subscription does indeed offer way more than email, however, if tools like Teams are to be adopted by your organization, users have to be prepared that the only constant will be change.
We will be relocating to Mill 180 here in Easthampton later this summer. You can track our construction project by visiting our photo album
on Facebook. More photos will be added as the project continues, so be sure to check back as big changes are soon to occur!
Introducing Proteus Fund
Advancing justice through human rights, democracy and peace.
Proteus believes that an economically and socially just society depends on three fundamental tenets:
- Every human being must be treated equally with respect and integrity.
- Our political system must protect and reinforce these human rights.
- The environment must be free of violence and oppression so these core values can thrive.
Founded in 1996, Proteus has brought together $145 million towards the realization of this vision. Partnering with individual donors and foundations, they design and manage collaborative grant making on a range of leading social change arenas - from curbing the growing influence of money in politics to advancing marriage equality and protecting civil liberties in an age of heightened national security.
Central to Proteus is the belief that when funders pool resources and draw on collective ideas and energy, the resulting process allows participants to maximize their investment dollar and have a much broader impact than each donor partner might do individually. For this reason, Proteus integrates a collaborative approach in our major initiative work. Please visit their web site
for more information.
Please join us on Tuesday, September 12th
at our Open House in our new home at Mill 180 in Easthampton! Not only can you help us celebrate our new location, but this is a great opportunity to meet some of the behind-the-scenes staff that service our clients all day, every day. Please RSVP
if you plan to attend so we can plan accordingly. We hope you'll join us!
