They say you don't know where you're going unless you know where you've been... and IBS has been some pretty exciting places!
Inception
"Our basic philosophy is that most small businesses cannot afford or need a full time Electronic Data Processing Group (IT Dept), but do however, need to maximize the use of micro computers (PCs) to remain competitive. Innovative Business Systems believes that by working with management and users, a comprehensive system can be developed capitalizing on the power of the computer and leaving the users with a system they feel comfortable with, and have been a part of its development." - Mission Statement from 1989 IBS Business Plan
The early days
Founded by Bill Tremblay in 1987 and incorporated January 1, 1990, IBS was formed to help companies in our primary business area of western Massachusetts better understand and utilize emerging computer technologies. With an original focus on the design and implementation of custom software solutions, we quickly realized that in order to provide the level of support our customers required, we had to expand our core competencies to include computer hardware and networking.
Geography
In the early 90's, IBS developed a specialization in supporting regional community banks, as well as a diverse mix of small businesses. IBS hardware and networking specialists were dispatched out of our primary location in Florence, MA, as well as our satellite office in Lee, MA. Additionally, IBS designed software applications run by clients not only in New England, but throughout the South and Midwest, to the Rocky Mountains and desert Southwest. Today, IBS is based in Easthampton, MA with a Disaster Recovery Facility and Collocation in Marlborough, MA.
Business philosophy
Since our inception, IBS has implemented a carefully crafted business philosophy of 'Controlled Growth'. Early on we realized that fulfilling our customers' needs was the key to our continued business success. By avoiding the 'Hypergrowth' associated with many technology companies through the 1990s, IBS was able to consistently increase our annual sales while not alienating the valued customers who got us there. With this philosophy, IBS earned recognition as one of the fastest growing companies in western Massachusetts from 1995-1999 and again in 2003, 2008, and 2009 by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield.
The transition
Effective August 18, 2003, five long-time employees, Dave DelVecchio, Brian Scanlon, Scott Seifel, Ben Scoble, and Sean Benoit, purchased IBS from founder Bill Tremblay. Bill remained involved through the transition on a consultative basis, stepping down as President in 2006.
To the cloud!
In September 2010, IBS signed a long-term lease on collocation space and an office suite in a SAS70 Type-II datacenter in Marlborough, MA. Through the end of 2010, we ramped up a state-of-the-art production environment to offer hosted Exchange, hosted SharePoint, virtual server hosting, off-site data backup and replication services, and D.R. solutions using this Marlborough infrastructure.
Why the new look?
January 1, 2010 marked the 20th corporate anniversary of IBS. With that milestone serving as a time of reflection, we at IBS decided to reexamine our look and messaging to be sure we were effectively communicating exactly who we are and what we do. Through a measured year-long effort, we unveiled a new logo and tag line in late 2010 promising "Smarter Technology for Better Business" which in fact, is not just a tag line, but our brand promise to you.
With a dedicated team currently in place, IBS is well positioned for continued success now and in the future. We'll worry about your IT, so you don't have to.
